During the early 1980s, the Hand family operated a sand mine on that same land. When the mine eventually closed, Randy Hand, who had built a career in the rock mining industry, found himself worn down by corporate life. He longed for something meaningful, something that felt like home. Then came the dream: Randy envisioned bottling pure water from that flowing well and sharing it with the community.
Rather than letting that dream fade, Randy acted. He left his corporate job, took a severance, sold the family home, and moved back to Bonifay. There, he drilled a new well next to the original one and began the journey that would become Artezia Water Company.
What Were the Early Days Like?
Starting a bottled water company in rural Florida wasn’t easy. In the beginning, Randy and his teenage son Trevor hauled water in Mobile, Alabama, then transported it back to Bonifay on a cattle trailer. Every crate, every bottle, every load was handled by hand. Trevor initially planned to study pharmacy, but when Randy expanded operations into Tallahassee and needed help, he came home for “just one summer.” That summer turned into a lifelong calling, and father and son became business partners, building Artezia Water together.
